The Tyrolean Cancer Research Institute (TKFI) is a private initiative of the charity association “Verein zur Förderung der Krebsforschung in Tirol” and was founded in 2000 by Emeritus Professor Raimund Margreiter and Hofrat Hubert Kuprian. It is a unique institution in Austria in terms of the funding it receives, the research questions it tackles, and the way it operates within the organization. The establishment of the Institute was financed by the Tiroler Landeskrankenanstalten GmbH and through donations from Tyrolean industry and the public. The running costs are covered by donations and through nationally and internationally peer-reviewed research projects of the research groups.
Mission
The goal of the TKFI, and thus its mission statement, is cancer research with a direct connection to clinical applications. The TKFI aims to advance the translational cancer research of established teams at The Medical University Innsbruck and the Leopold-Franzens-Universität.
