Welcome to the Division of Molecular Pathophysiology (DMP)
Research:
The aim of the DMP is to improve our understanding of fundamental
biological processes on the molecular level with the ultimate goal to
apply this knowledge to improved therapy and diagnosis of human
diseases. Specifically, we investigate apoptosis (Kofler), cell cycle
control (Geley) and proteins interacting with the glucocorticoid
receptor (Helmberg). Our Division participates in the local Research
Program Project (SFB, "Spezialforschungsbereich"), and programs funded
by the European Community (Transfog) and Austrian Ministry of
Education, Science and Culture (GEN-AU). Our research is further
supported by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF, SFB-F021, P18571, P18747) and other funding agencies.
Teaching:
The Division further participates in various teaching programs of both
the MUI (basic medical school, MD/PhD program) and the LFU (PhD
program). In this respect, we are part of the recently established
"Molecular Cell Biology and Oncology" training program (MCBO).
The DMP consists of four research groups (organisation):
- Leukemia Apoptosis: Reinhard Kofler
- Cell cycle control: Stephan Geley
- Molecular Oncology: Arno Helmberg
- Applied Bioinformatics Group: Johannes Rainer
